Today’s Words of Wisdom – 9/30/2012 – Jobs and Food

The one who stays on the job has food on the table;
the witless chase whims and fancies.

Proverbs 12:11

The Message

Thoughts :

Need I say more? I believe these words are clear. Since Adam and Eve ate the apple, we have had to work for our food.

Have a blessed day in The Lord

Today’s Words of Wisdom – 9/29/12 – The Lord Tests the Heart

The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, But the LORD tests the hearts.

Proverbs 17:3 NKJV

THOUGHTS :

It was the summer of 2003 in the early morning hours of a Thursday morning in Galena, Mexico, a small town surrounded by beautiful mountains. She sat at the picnic style table in the dining hall of this small mission doing her morning Bible Study while she and her friend waited on the others to shower and for breakfast to be served.

The two ladies in their late 40’s were on a week long mission trip with their church. Her friend had been in Galena previously and had shared that it was necessary to be the first people in the shower if one wanted a hot – warm shower. So every morning they had set their alarms for 5am and made their sleepy way to the showers, showered and dressed then had found a quiet place to do their morning Bible Study sitting quietly together as they read and prayed, occasionally praying together.

They had spent the week teaching Vacation Bible School, holding evening worship services and teaching a Women’s Bible Study. As they had gone from small, quaint village to small, quaint village, sometimes traveling miles and miles on narrow, dirt, mountain roads she enjoyed the beauty of the mountains. Her heart was moved at each location by the eagerness of the Mexican people to welcome these Americans who had come to their village.

The previous night she had not been feeling well when they made their way to a far away village, known to be one of the poorest and the most resistent to visitors from the mission. Her stomach ached and churned. Barely containing herself she immediately asked for a bathroom when the van stopped explaining that she was ill. She quickly learned that there was only one outhouse in the entire village.

As they approached the owners of this precious outhouse, the leader of their team spoke to the family in Spanish and soon returned with a roll of toilet paper telling her that they were willing to share their only roll of toilet paper and their outhouse. He pointed to the field where she saw a small unpainted wooden structure in the open.

As she neared the structure she saw it was leaning and there were large cracks between the boards and a threadbare cloth that had once covered the door but now only partially covered it. As she gratefully sit on the “throne” she praised the Lord for His provision as she stared out of the cracks wondering who was watching her.

On this Thursday morning as she read the words of Proverbs 17:3 – the Lord tests the heartshe knew that He was aware of her desire to leave this primitive place, to be a ‘sender’, not a ‘goer’ – she quickly saw that her heart had not truly been mission focused.

As time passed and the words of Proverbs 17:3 would come before her time and time again she would find many lessons such as the heart of Christ that the sweet Mexican lady had shown toward her when she had so selflessly shared her precious, priceless roll of toilet paper. Although noticed and thank yous extended, the true depth of that sacrifice and the loving heart of that woman went unnoticed for several years.

Conclusion:

Since that July morning when God first made these words scream at me from the pages of my Bible He has used them many times to cause me to listen closely to the state of my heart, for it is my heart – not my words or my actions – that is His primary concern. If my heart is right then my words and actions will follow. Thank you Lord for getting my attention.

Have a blessed day in The Lord.

Fools are headstrong and do what they like;
wise people take advice.

Proverbs 12:15
The Message

Thoughts :

The more I read and study Proverbs, the more I am realizing yet once again that I am still a fool much of the time. I believe that most of us would prefer to give advice than to heed advice. 🙂

Today and in the days ahead I will listen openly to advice, pray over thar advice and heed any words of wisdom that God may have given me thru the advice given.

May you have a blessed day with The Lord.

Words of Wisdom 9/26/2012 To Vent or Not to Vent – That Is The Question

A fool vents all his feelings,
But a wise man holds them back.
Proverbs 29:11 NKJV

A fool lets it all hang out;
a sage quietly mulls it over.
Proverb 29:11
The Message

Thoughts :

I would truly like to tell you that I am always a wise sage who is able to hold her feelings back, to ponder their source and their meaning and to consider if they are truly worthy of expression. However those of you who know me personally would know that is not always true for you have been on the receiving end of my expression of feelings – good and bad. 🙂

I chuckled when I read The Message translation this morning. The words speak so clearly –

A fool lets it all hang out – I do think we are

to express and share our feelings but only after we have been a sage who quietly mulls it over before venting our emotions.

It is so easy to hurt others when we are foolish in how and when we share our feelings. I would venture to say that venting is not only foolish but most times hurtful and inconsiderate of others.

Today I challenge you as I challenge myself — be a wise sage who mulls it over. 🙂

Have a blessed day in The Lord.

Today’s Words of Wisdom – 9/25/2012

It’s better to be poor and direct than rich and crooked.

Proverbs 28:6
The Message

Thoughts :

Jesus came to this world as a humble carpenter who was also open and direst in his manner. I was privileged to be born in a poor family who’s income was only slightly above the poverty level. There was little money but our basic needs were always met and you always knew where others stood.

As I have matured and experienced the world living in larger cities, traveling to others places and working in a large company, my paths have encountered money, greed, deceit in the name of business and many crooked paths along the way.

I am thankful that I was born poor and have been given an appreciation for honesty, values and a simple but direct path to life.

Have a blessed day in The Lord.

The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe

(Proverbs 18 : 10 – KJV)

Thoughts : How many times in your life have you either said yourself or heard someone else say something along the lines of “I wish I had instructions on what I need to do next or how do I handle this issue or what is right in this situation?”

The God-breathed words of The Holy Bible provides us with our answers when we take the time to read and study it’s words. In this wonderful collection of God inspired truths we are told about King Solomon – the wisest man who ever lived. King Solomon left his many words of wisdom in his writings in the books of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. Each of these books is filled with truths about how to live our lives.

The book of Proverbs is one of my favorite for it’s simple, clear, yet direct approach. God seems to be urging me to focus on a verse from Proverbs each day. It will be an adventure to see where he leads and to learn what he will place on my heart to share as I write.

As for today’s verse, “The name of the Lord”….. have you ever noticed how you feel when you simply, quietly speak the name of Jesus, Our Lord?

Do you not feel his strength almost instantly? I had never thought of Our Lord as a “strong tower” but I love this description of Solomon. I don’t know about you, but when I say the name of Jesus I do feel instantly as if I have entered a “strong tower “, a place of safety from the trials, stresses, daily battles if life.

Have you visited this “strong tower “? If not, come join me there. I believe you will like what you find there.

May you have a blessed day with The Lord!
