Divine Grace

“Unmerited divine assistance given humans for their regeneration or sanctification; a virtue coming from God”, these are the first two definitions of the word Grace in the Merriam-Webster Online dictionary. As we look at the attributes of God, one of those that is most treasured is his Grace. God’s Grace is always accompanied by God’s Mercy. His Mercy does not give us what we deserve. Instead, His Grace gives us what we do not deserve.

In Genesis 6:7 the Lord said “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”  In verse 8, we read, “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” Noah found ‘salvation’ through God’s Grace as God saved Noah and his family from death during the Great Flood.

We may experience God’s Grace as “undeserved favor, as unexpected acceptance or as unconditional love[1].  One of the most potent ways we experience God’s Grace is when we battle sin. No sin is a match for God’s Grace. His Grace is always more powerful than sin and He will always give us a means of overcoming sin in our lives through His Grace.

Jesus Christ is the giver of God’s Grace. It is through Jesus that we, like Noah, can experience God’s Grace, His salvation. The redemption from sin through the Grace which came through the spilling of Jesus’ blood is eternal Grace. It is ours for eternity.

God is a loving God who loves to give out of his love. The Gift of Grace is His greatest pleasure.

Blessed be the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which he purposed in Himself, that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth – in Him.

Ephesians 1:3-10 NKJV

Oh Gracious Lord, of all your gifts, the gift of your Grace through The Son is one of the most precious and priceless. I thank you Father for your Grace, so undeserved. May those in our families and in our friendships that have not experienced your Grace, come to meet your Son face to face. May they, too, experience the gift of your eternal Grace.

In His Name,
