Ironically, change is one of the few constant things in life. Some changes are gradual and other times we can watch things change almost before our eyes. With the passing of time we age and those around us age as well. Our homes, our cars, our bodies begin to show signs of age as time passes. Our jobs change as the people we work with change or as our leadership change. The people we associate with in our life change. Hopefully, we change as we grow wiser after we experience various life events and choices.
Change is good; however, it sometimes will bring loss or confusion. Change is often uncomfortable as we seek to adjust to the parent or spouse with Alzheimer, the loved one who has become chronically or terminally ill, the change in our job situations or just daily changes that occur in life.
Wouldn’t it be nice to know that there was someone in your life who would never change? Someone who would ALWAYS be there, who could ALWAYS be counted on, who would be the same when you are five years old and still be the same when you are eighty-five years old?
There IS someone — God. God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He is the same God that spoke the world into creation. He is the same God that spoke and the Red Sea parted for the Egyptians. He is the same God that protected David as he slew Goliath. He is the same God that caused the Virgin Mary to give birth to a son. He is the same God that healed the sick and who raised Jesus from the Tomb. He has not changed since before the beginning of time.
We can always count on God to be the same regardless of the circumstances in our life. I don’t know about you, but knowing that the God I worship is the same God of those in Scripture, to know that He is unchanging even after all these years, is a genuine comfort and strength as I face the never-ending changes of life.
For I am the LORD, I do not change; … Malachi 3:6a
Lord, thank you for being constant, unchanging, always the same. It is so comforting to know that the God of the great names in scripture is the same God we serve. We rejoice that we can always count on you in our life to be there to see us through each day. In thanksgiving we want to praise You, to honor You and to glorify You Oh, Lord!
In Jesus Name,
