Jesus, the Same Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  Hebrews 13:8  NKJV

When the true meaning of these words finally reached my heart a few years ago, my spiritual life changed forever. The Jesus who was born in Bethlehem, who studied in the Temple at age 12, who was a carpenter in Nazareth, who fed the crowds with a few fish and loaves of bread, who healed the sick and calm the waves of the sea; The Jesus who chose and walked with the disciples, who washed the feet of the disciples, who prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, who was crucified on the Cross as King of the Jews, who was buried and who arose – is the same Jesus that I know and worship today.

He is the God of the Old Testament, the God of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Jacob and Isaac and the God who was with God when he killed the giant, and with Samson and with Jonah in the belly of the whale.

He is the same God who came to Paul in a vision and changed him from a person who persecuted Christians to a person who was persecuted for being a Christian and spreading the gospel of Jesus and His Grace.

The comforter that God sent when Jesus descended was the Holy Spirit, the same Spirit of the Old Testament and the same Holy Spirit that lives in me today.  Wow! God’s power in me – He is in me to lead me and guide me just as he led and guided the Children of Israel when they escaped from Egypt.

Can any other religion present us with a Savior who was, who is and who will be the same – always the same? Can any other religion present us with a personal Savior who will walk with us, guide us, just as He did Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Enoch, the disciples and Paul?  Can any other religion offer a personal Savior who can cover your sins in his blood and give you eternal life though his resurrection? Can any other religion give you a personal relationship with Jesus who can and will change your life just as his death on the Cross and his resurrection changed the lives of the disciples and the Apostle Paul?

An unchanging, living Jesus – same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We can always count on him to keep his Word and to be there when we reach out to him.  What a precious and life changing gift of love.
